Day 5: Porto! (Sat:5/25)
My train arrives at the Estacao de Sao Bento, a train station with an atrium that hosts 20,000 azulejos (gorgeous tilework) that depicts the history of Portugal. The center of Porto is yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site! This large city is a mix of modern and medieval. The thing I most want to see in this city is the Torre dos Clerigos, a very tall tower with 255 stairs that offers a beautiful view of the city. Nearby is the Centro Portugues de Fotografia or the Portuguese Centre of Photography. This center is housed in a spooky jailhouse and is a free attraction! The final attraction I hope to catch is the Igreja de Santo Ildefonso, a church with a facade covered with azulejo tiles depicting scenes from the Gospels.
