The next day Wednesday, May 22, I checked out of my hostel and made my way to Rossio Square to catch the train to Sintra. The hostel was hard to find but I found it and then ventured out to find a place for lunch. I found a cute place where I ordered Risotto de Polvo e Mexilhao (Octopus & Mussels Risotto).
After lunch, I hiked my way to the Palacio da Pena. The hike took me through a city park and it was gorgeous! The path took me past the Castelo do Mouros, which I did not stop to see because I had my heart set on the Palacio because all of the pictures I had seen of it were straight out of a fairytale.
The Palacio consisted of a palace and a park. I only got to explore part of the park but I was able to see the Temple of the Columns, the Octogonal Table, the Statute of the Warrior, and the High Cross.
With the evening setting in, I set out to the hostel and stopped at a restaurant for dinner. I ordered the Tomate e Novilho ao Porto Branco (Tomato & Beef with white Porto wine). They were the best tomatoes I had ever had. I returned to the hostel and met a few of my bunk mates who I have as friends on social media.
