The next day Saturday, May 25, I checked out of my hostel and boarded a train to Porto. I got on the wrong train but a kind woman helped me to the correct train, which took me to the Sao Bento station in Porto. I made my way to my hostel, Rivoli Cinema Hostel, which had the rooms be different movie themes. Lucky for me, they had a box of free stuff left by previous visitors where I was able to snag some cold medicine!
I got lunch at Cafe Santiago Da Praca where I ordered Cachorro Santiago (hot dog bread with spicy sausage and cheese). Afterwards, I made my way to the Igreja de Santo Ildefonso which is a church covered with Portugal's famous blue and white azulejo tiles. It was a small church but still majestic. I donated some coins to their roof restoration fund and they let me write my name on a tile. I dedicated it to my Uncle DelRay Bangen, who had recently passed from glioblastoma. I then visited the Torre dos Clerigos which had a lot of tourists and it was a beautiful view.
I returned to my hostel and stopped by the rooftop bar where I chatted with some patrons. I learned an engagement party was happening from the bride and groom themselves but they seemed very excited to share their happy news with me. They were very kind. The bartender told me of an amazing gelato place near by so I made my way there instead. I got mango, lemon, and raspberry gelato and they shaped it like a flower and topped it with a mango macaroon. Then I returned to the hostel.
