The next day Wednesday, May 29, had me boarding the metro at Marques de Pombal to Terreiro do Paco where I found a small church called Casa dos Bicos. Afterwards, I wandered the streets a little and came across the Se Cathedral and the Museu Antoniano which is a museum about Lisbon's Patron Saint Anthony.
After lunch, I made my way to Rossio Square to join a walking tour of Lisbon. It was 2.5 hours but we saw some pretty sights. We ended at Noombai which is a restaurant overlooking the Tagus river. Afterwards, I headed back to my hostel to grab my bags, and set out to my new hostel.
And this dear reader is where things got a little scary. The taxi took me to a building that did not look like the picture of the hostel that was posted on the website I booked through. Google maps took me back down the street where I stopped a young woman for directions and she walked me to the metro. I tried calling and emailing the hostel and the address was confirmed. I took another taxi back to the original place and go up to the apartment that was supposedly the hostel. There was no signs or advertisements depicting that I was in the correct place. A man answered the door when I knocked and in broken English said it was cash only and there was an ATM down a busy road. I purposefully booked hostels that accepted card so there would be a record of me being in that location if anything happened.
I dropped my heavy bag in the apartment that had a bunch of bunk beds jammed into a room and went down the street telling the man I would go to the ATM. I took my fanny pack with my passport, credit cards, and phone, and booked it. It was now night and I was on a busy road. I start calling around to other hostels and at one, I start crying while speaking with the woman. I told her what was happening and she told me to wait right there and her and her husband were on their way. They came, picked me up, took me to the original hostel to get my bag, and then took me to their hostel to spend the night.
