The next day Tuesday, May 28, had me sleeping until noon and taking a taxi to Urban Garden Hostel. Across the street was an American restaurant, called American Music Burger. I was curious what the Portuguese version of American food tasted like, so I ordered a Jazz Burger with fries and a raspberry milkshake. The waitress had no idea what ranch was so I got mayo instead.
After lunch, I made my way to the Lisbon Story Center, which is an interactive musuem on Portugal's history. The only thing I knew about Portugal before this was the Great Earthquake of 1755. It turns out, the earthquake also triggered a tsunami that destroyed a jail. The escaped prisoners were also lighting fires to the area to cover up their crimes. It was the worst earthquake in history and the death count is still unknown. The earthquake also set about plans to modernize Lisbon which made it the first modern city in Europe.
After the Lisbon Story Center, I treated myself to ice cream and returned to the hostel to get ready for bed.
